Album Review

Long one of America's favorite vocalists, Johnny Mathis released his first Christmas album in 1958, and his warm, personable vocal style is perfect for the holiday season. 2013's Sending You a Little Christmas is a yuletide effort from Mathis that features his interpretations of a handful of holiday classics, including duets with such stars as Billy Joel ("The Christmas Song"), Susan Boyle ("Do You Hear What I Hear"), Gloria Estefan ("Mary’s Boy Child"), Natalie Cole ("Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"), and Vince Gill & Amy Grant ("I’ll Be Home for Christmas"/"White Christmas")., Rovi

His voice is Timeless

Johnny's first Christmas album came out 55 years ago. Its a classic (as is Barbra Streisand's 1967 A Christmas Album).
Now 78 years old, his voice is as beautiful as ever while most people his age experience vocal decline. He has a voice of an angel. He is the only male singer of his era that was able to cross over adeptly into the pop music sound and not sounding like some vegas lounge act trying to sound hip. This guy still shows that he has that gift and sounds very contemporary. i loved his teaming with Jim brikman on Sending you a Little Christmas, his musical collabopartion with Amy grant and her husband Vince Gill on i'll be Home for Christmas, two other standouts are This Christmas and the duet with billy joel on the Christmas Song. this album is a great addition to Mathis' 5 previous studio Christmas albums (he;s put out one in each decade). the man has a gift from God an is a musical treasure. He deserves to get the attention and accolades that Tony Bennett receives.

Johnny feels like Christmas

One of the last and most popular in a long line of traditional male vocalists who emerged before the rock-dominated 1960s, Johnny Mathis concentrated on romantic readings of jazz and pop standards for the ever-shrinking adult contemporary audience of the '60s and '70s. Though he debuted with a flurry of singles chart activity, Mathis later made it big in the album market, where a dozen of his LPs hit gold or platinum and over 60 made the charts. While he originally concentrated on theme-oriented...
