Anita Cochran "Serenity"

Excellent singing, guitar playing and songwriting for starters. Anita also co-produced this CD and plays banjo, harmonica, mandolin and more.
None of that would make a difference if the songs and performance weren't meaningful. They are. It feels like Anita is sharing part of her life with us. Many songs are easy to relate to, all are beautifully performed and presented.
I like the "unplugged" version of her #1 hit "What if I Said". Rather than try to recreate the original, this is a solo version with understated acoustic backing. Nice.
Other highlights for me are "Better for You" and "Picture You In Heaven"; a song that speaks to the kind of loss that we all have or will experience.
This could be the best work of Anita's career. Highly recommended.

Touches the Heart and Moves the Soul

Anita has always been able to move and inspire her listeners with wonderful lyrics and soulful and honest vocals. When I hear songs like "She Wants to Ride" and "Daddy Can You See Me", I can actually experience the freedom of that horseback ride and the heartache of wanting to talk to a Dad who is no longer here. I also enjoy her playful side in songs like "Girls Like Fast Cars Too" and "God Created Woman". Her musicianship is masterful and inspiring. Anita's instrumental prowess and technical execution really set the tone for each and every song.
Serenity is no exception. To begin with, the title couldn't have been more appropriate. It perfectly describes the ambiance of this compilation. The material is strong, sensitive and mature. The pictures she paints with her lyrics are so vivid you feel like you're actually experiencing every story. I feel as though I've actually met "The Walking Man". And I know exactly what she's talking about when she wants to make things "Better For You". Anita has outdone herself with this wonderful collection. I really enjoy the instrumental combinations she chose to use. The banjo basic tracks are very tasty. And of course her impeccible lead guitar work, as always, comes from her heart. I'm glad Anita chose to use her lower vocal register more. The first strains of "Dying To Live Again" are so restful and at the same time extremely compelling. Her low, throaty vocals exude a relaxed and confident Anita. She is a unique and compelling vocalist. This project feels like Anita has extended her hand and invited us to walk with her on this part of her journey in this life. She has allowed us into her most intimate thoughts and feelings. And if we truly listen, we can glean understanding and insight right along with her. This album is a sensory experience you won't want to miss!

Just Missed the Fifth Star-not by much!

Sounds like a nicely different and comfortable vocal range than the typical Nashvillite-THANKS FOR THAT! Anita hits most of the notes 'in the middle' and phrasing is good. I'm sorry to say that I wish she could have flown solo on the production effort. Sounds a little 'Nashville Busy" if you know what I mean. (Too many cooks, etc!)

I will keep my 'notify me' button locked on for Anitas news, releases and reports. I think she has room to fly, and I expect it to happen, sooner than later. NOW: Do me a favor....listen to a Singer/Songwriter by the name of Krista Detor. (My fav is an 'album' entitled "Cover Their Eyes"-you can buy it right here on iTunes) .. It was an instant love of her music that drove me to own all she has released to date. Lemme know if you approve.
