Ennio Morricone’s musical scores have added suspense and drama to dozens of American and Italian films, including his soundtracks to the "Spaghetti Westerns" of the '60s. For this collaboration, Morricone not only re-orchestrated his own music, but also conducted and produced it. This album opens with the timeless melody of “Gabriel’s Oboe” from The Mission, this time heard in the rich, full voice of Ma’s cello. The “Ecstasy of Gold” theme from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly evokes the vast desert horizons of the classic western atmosphere. Throughout, Yo-Yo Ma’s knack for precise, romantic playing is front and center.
Beautiful music wonderfully performed but a real hack job in the end of the tacks. The music abruptly ends. They could at least do a bit of a fade out. Or warn you that the album need to be bought in whole for the sound not to be cur off. Kind of like eating an exquisite piece of chocolate cake and finding a bug in thelast mouthful.
Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio
Cockeye's Song abruptly stops as does three other cuts. We are disappointed but love the album.
Beautiful and annoying
I bought the entire album after I read the reviews. The music is simply beautiful and well done but when the songs end abruptly and start abruptly it's like enjoying a passionate kiss and suddenly being kicked in the balls.
