Album Review

Moving the guitars forward in the mix paid off in spades for Clutch, who continued with their familiar formula of mixing Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath on their sophomore album. Without straying at all from its roots, the band adds a little more funk to its sound à la Primus, which makes for a more consistent set of songs than last time. Not to mention that the stars shine brighter than they did last time around: "Spacegrass" alone should have become an instant classic, but following minor rotation on hard rock stations, the song — and the band with it — was delegated a cult status, compared to the likes of contemporaries Coal Chamber and Korn.

The turning point....

I remember when this Album came out...1995...for me it was the turning point for the band... I mean, I'd been a fan for quite some time when this was released... However for me when I heard this, I knew they were on a whole new level from previous releases.. Fat grooves, GREAT lyrics, out of all the Clutch cd's that I have, this is the one that put them on the map for me. I've listened to it probably 80 times or more realistically and have NEVER tired of it... I feel that this is an ESSENTIAL album in ANY rock collection.

Clutch wrote the book on stoner metal. this one is mandatory. hey you guys can never play grand rapids enough, KEEP COMING!

Holy Canoli! Clutch does it again!

They built a local following through constant gigging, and after just one 7" single (the classic Earache release "Passive Restraints") Clutch were signed by EastWest Records. Their debut LP, Transnational Speedway League, followed in 1993. A self-titled album...
