Sex, Food, Death, and Tarantulas

Sex, Food, Death, and Tarantulas

In 2007, Robyn Hitchcock was involved in a filmed documentary of his work, Sex, Food, Death…and Insects, which showed him at work in his London home and on tour with a variety of bandmates and special guests, including R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. This EP features live versions of tunes from those sessions and even a few classic Soft Boys songs, with sharp renditions of "Queen of Eyes" and "Give It to The Soft Boys" highlighting the set. A studio version of "(A Man's Gotta Know His Limitations) Briggs" made it to the official album, the captivating Ole Tarantula, while versions of "Luckiness" and "The Afterlife" appeared on the excellent Propellor Time. A cover of the folk classic "Copper Kettle" (popularized by Joan Baez and also covered by Bob Dylan) gets the Hitchcock treatment, with the addition of a mandolin that spins things toward Americana.
