iTunes Review

This Paul Simon-produced 1987 release followed on the heels of South African choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo's breakout international debut on Simon’s own Graceland. Sung in both Zulu and English, Shaka Zulu is a quietly majestic masterpiece of the all-male, a cappella isicathamiya choral tradition. Though recorded in the depths of the apartheid era, Joseph Shablala’s plaintive, hopeful lead tenor shines through on “Unomathemba,” while gospel-inflected tracks like “King of Kings” and “How Long?” remain defiant, soulful, and profoundly humane.

Just love

I agree. I wasn't planning on buying this album and I tried my hardest not to. I couldn't help me. It does something to me emotionally. Just close your eyes to this album and let go. This album will take you on a journey for sure. I just love this.

My heart leapt in my body and I got up and danced through the whole marvelous musical experience. Next I just had to get my 2 little grandchildren dancing to the hello my baby number and also the one about "When you the sun comes up on the mountain, I am waiting for the sun,Say good night!"you are so They were thrilled, and started to dance too! This spirit-filled group has got to have A special God connection for their joy and emotion seems to come not only from their voices as they sing or their dances but from the very earth that they seem grateful for! I feel blessed to have seen them in concert and will never forget it! If you ever get a chance to see them and have not done so it is a life-changing experience!

They've cut well over 30 albums since, but the group did not become well known outside of South Africa until Paul Simon asked them to perform on Graceland. Shabalala was born into a poor family that lived on a white man's farm near the town of Ladysmith.
