EDITORS’ NOTES

blink-182 get reinvigorated with the help of a new member—Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. Packing blistering pace and surprising range, California soars when Skiba has room to unleash his smokey holler, like on impassioned highlight "Left Alone." Crisp guitar tones and hum-worthy melodies take front seat, but there’s plenty of pop-punk silliness along the way.

Different...

"Bored to Death," while really a solid track and definitely a fun listen, is weakened by sometimes odd lyrics and a lack of contrast betweem Mark and Matt's vocals. The lyrics "there's a stranger staring at the ceiling, resuing a tiger from a tree...' is really odd and just does not fit in the song. Also, there were multiple times throughout the song when I first listened that I did not realize that Matt was singing, rather than Mark. This lack of vocal contrast in their vocals really takes away what made blink so unique in the first place. Tom and Mark's starkly differing vocal pitches gave blink's old material a great deal of variety and character. These problems aside, I still have very high hopes for the full release, and really believe that the band will be able to put out a solid album.

I’ll always be a fan regardless

Bored to death brings light of a new blink-182 era. (Bored to death sounds like a mix between newer blink and +44 but with a nostalgic sounding blink chorus) With Tom disendowed on his own ventures, I’m extremely stoked Hoppus is sticking to his roots and reigniting this legendary band. At age 27, blink-182 is still my favorite band and has been since I was in elementary school having bought Enema of the state as my first CD.
If you’re a fan of blink then you should definitely support this new effort and I cannot wait for the tour!

Good song, but....

Mark and Matt sound almost identical. I can not tell when it is Matt most of the time, good song, I'm gonna get the album, but really missing Tom here.
