This album is a must buy.

It's Only Life Rocks!

You have to see JD "live" to really appreciate his energy! "It's only Life" is my favorite track but he is much more upbeat than the other tracks and can really get a crowd dancing. His voice and presence is "country soulful" and has a rich color to it. You can feel him sing! He is a connecting performer and packs a wallop for a little guy. Kind of reminds me of Steve Azar (looks) and love the harp too on Shine a Light. More Please!!!

Lessons Learned, Vol. 1

Sincere as a Al Green, the Dave in "Just Dave" mines landscapes un-trod upon by spiritual mentors The Band, Gram Parsons, Black Crowes, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. They had their romantic cities they traveled and wrote about, but Dave - who also answers to Dave Bernal and "J.D." - is smack in the middle of the San Fernando Valley; the mythic wonder-world depicted callously in so many pop culture references, but in Dave's lyrical view of it, he embraces the SFV's vastness and questions it's conquer-ability as only a troubadour can.

Just Dave's mission established - it is still merely the "yin" to the "yang" that is Dave's supreme harmonica playing. I imagine if this were a full length disc there would be more emphasis on his weapon of choice and the passionate exhaling (and inhaling!) i've seen him display live. He blows solos like he's playing a Les Paul instead of a Bill Hohner. There isn't enough of that (not enough lessons yet?). Looking forward to Volume 2.
