iTunes Review

Me’Shell Ndegeocello has always specialized in her own brand of abstract, atmospheric r&b, but The World Has Made Me… is her boldest statement yet. Using a collage-like sound design that pulls together the confessional songcraft of Joni Mitchell, the throbbing pulse of dub reggae, and Funkadelic’s unruly howl, Ndegeocello makes music that is intensely physical — these are sounds from which giant bodies take shape. From the breathless patterns of “Lovely Lovely” to the nasty pulsations of “Relief - A Stripper Classic,” the album is unafraid to convey sex in the most explicit musical terms. The current of sonic innovation that runs through The World Has Made Me… makes it kin to work by visionary producers like Brian Eno and Bill Laswell, yet Ndegeocello’s seductive vocals and hypnotic performance style are sure to draw in fans of contemporary singer-songwriters and soul artists. Though she is often classified under the “soul/R&B” banner and might sit next to Alicia Keys on the cd racks, Ndegeocello shares more with the idiosyncratic, highly personal work of lionhearted female musicians like Bjork and Sinead O’Connor.

Me'Shell, my bell....

I hate the fact that most of these reviews say Me'Shell has "out done herself".... when all she is continuing to do (lol) is be the truest, most blessed musician/composer on the scene. If you haven't heard of her, well shame on you. This girl is a sparkplug for the music world, even back when she was backing up that hack Mellencamp. She is the very essence of the word "ARTIST". The ONLY thing more pleasent then her silky voice is her master chops on her Bass. This girl isn't just "gifted", she is a one man/woman wrecking crew. Assaulting and exposing bad music where ever she travels. This album is a continution of the evolution and development of an artist UNLEASHED!!!! This recording project doesn't shock me, it just makes me feel there is a God and she is a messenger from that entity. God has packed more talent into that girl then anyone I can think of. She is the most versitile, talented, and DEEP artist who busts down barriers where ever she chooses. People, this is what music is supposed to be. This is an artist with a masters degree in making people take notice. Not thru shock or petty tricks of riding thru L.A. with no underwear on, but by picking up her instrument stepping up to a microphone and pressing the record button. Armed with her enormous talent, Me'Shell will one day (hopefully soon) reap her just rewards of world domination. Go Me'Shell, God bless you for continuing to give the world what it needs, REAL MUSIC!!!! You are without question my most admired human being!!!!! You're a pretty good musician

Ok Ok not to diminsh any of the reviews from fans of Meshell but I am truely coming with a critique unbiased (as this is the first album I have brought of hers). This album is amazing. Its not comparable to anything ive listened to before and I cannot stop listening to it. This is coming from a dude! Her album is so uplifting, inspiring, audacious, and relaxing. Paradise, Evolution, Lovely Lovely, and Shirk, are jus a few off the top of my head which demand the attention of the listener.....well dont wanna bore you with my words enjoy!

I'm so excited that finally someone has stepped outside the box with something other than cookie cutter music! I have been a huge fan and never get tired because she always reinvents herself. Nothing boring about her CDs or her shows!

Although Meshell Ndegeocello scored a few hits early in her career, the bassist, singer, and songwriter later opted to concentrate on more challenging material by exploring the politics of race and sex, among other topics. From her 1993 Maverick label debut through her releases of the 2010s for Naïve, she built a discography of recordings that defied classification through progressive mixtures of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and rock. Initially held in regard primarily for her bass playing and bold lyrics,...
