Notas editoriales de iTunes

While one would certainly be well-served purchasing the Shoes albums Black Vinyl Shoes and Present Tense/Tongue Twister, it's equally beneficial to check out Shoes Best: a nonchronological collection of Shoes' highlights through their years at a major label. Though they never received the promotional push necessary to make their catchy pop tunes into actual hits, Shoes soldiered on, recording a series of albums that stand up well to the test of time. "Tomorrow Night" is an instant classic, and the many tracks from their best-known works make this a smart anthology. No one can argue with the inclusion of the meek and suggestive "Karen," the grand harmonies and guitar power of "Now and Then," or the new wave guitar skrotches of "I Don't Wanna Hear It." The inclusion of tunes from the less appreciated follow-up albums Boomerang and Silhouette make this the right spot for a career overview. Shoes' hometown of Zion, Ill., might not be New York or Los Angeles, but Shoes made strong power pop devoid of heartland rock clichés.

The Superlative Shoes Collection!

This is a superb collection of Shoes' indelibly catchy power pop. Once they get to you (and it doesn't take long) it is frankly impossible not to sing along with Jeff Murphy's ingeniously crafted vocal melodies and harmonies. These are all upbeat and inspired tunes etched out in the shape of post-Rubber Soul pop/rock with all the best potentialities set up therein, like electronic influences, terriific use of vocal harmonies and rhythmic syncopation with a groove-based sensibility. These boys are equally at home writing clever songs about miscommunication in relationships ("Double Talk," "Pieces of Glass" or "Too Late" ) as they are writing rocking sexy numbers like "She Satisfies" or "Will You Spin For Me". "Summer Rain" and "Curiosity" are must-hears from this comp. If you are a lover of melodic pop that sticks to the ribs, this is for you.

This Is Just Fantastic

Hey Bill H.! The SHOES are fianlly on itunes! I have been following this band for 27 years. Although I would highly recommend buying their first three Electra releases and 'Propeller', this is perfect for someone who just wants one album. An excellent overview that is more than an overview. There is no band that was more pure (and courageous) in the execution of sweet, White-boy, Post-hippie Pop. I wouldn't exactly call it Power Pop. Its too sugary for that. The vocal harmonies are sensational...always uplifting and deadly sad at the same time. Shoes is really where Emo and Power Pop have their beginnings. If it wern't for these guys, there would be no 'Third Eye Blind!'

great band, great compilation

i have everything from this band except this compilation, but would highly recommend it for anyone who likes power pop, catchy beats with catchy lyrics all played with great talent by a band who deserved more than the 15 seconds of fame it got on MTV in the 80s.
