Album Review

The Blazers come out of the same milieu—indeed, the same Los Angeles neighborhood—as Los Lobos, and they share the same mixture of '50s rock, blues, and country styles in their music. Short Fuse, their debut album, was produced by Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, and that's appropriate, because The Blazers lean toward his more traditional side of Los Lobos' music. There's nobody in the band who writes songs with the depth and imaginativeness of Los Lobos' team of David Hidalgo and Louis Perez, but that doesn't keep them from playing up a storm on a combination of English-language rock ravers and Spanish-language folk-based tunes. If you love Los Lobos, you will at least like The Blazers.
