What An Album, What A Voice...

I remember when "W*O*L*D" first came out and it hit me like nothing I'd ever heard before. I wanted this album so badly and had to beg for it, since my parents were kind of leery about the "racy cover art." But it totally did justice to the songs inside, which were all dark, dreamy tales of lost lives, lost loves and the yearning for something better, something you can almost touch but never completely have. Harry Chapin was yet another one of those great troubadours taken from us far too soon, but at least we have work like this to enjoy through the ages. If you download no other song from this album, get "W*O*L*D". It plays like the darker flip side of "WKRP In Cincinnati."

Okay, call me a burned out, school teaching, jerk but try buying Harry's song "Mercenaries". It is obscure, but it is the master at his best.

Superb!

Harry Chapin is one of the most talented artists I have ever heard. From the lyrics to the calm voice and unique sound, this is a really great album!

Critics accused him of over-sentimentalizing his subjects and attaching heavy-handed morals to his socially aware story-songs; the heavily orchestrated arrangements that accompanied many of his songs didn't help his case with the critics, either....
