From the opening and surprisingly "catching" notes of the allegros first movement to the heroic finale, Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra records Dmitir's Shostakovich's 7th symphony "the Leningrad" to the extreme. I have heard other recording of this excellent symphony, but can honestly proclaim that Valery picked up every note and emotion Shostakovich's scribed on paper and into our souls. This symphony it self is more beginner friendly compared to his later ones because the first movement repeats a basic, yet strong theme. The ending, like all his later symphonies is just pure incredible! The only disappointment will be an addiction to purchase all symphonies by this herald orchestra and conductor who were banned from most countries just decades ago.
Shear beauty. Sucha bold story behind this piece. "Where there is no hope, then there is music."
