Amazing woman; amazing life; amazing music

I just discovered this incredible woman. She was one of the most authentic, soulful and expressive singers I have ever heard. She recently passed away in October 2009. She was, in her country of Argentina, a legend and a national hero of sorts.

Mercedes Sosa (also known as La Negra) was an Argentine singer popular throughout Latin America. Her sound emanates from Argentine folk music. She has performed all over the world for over 40 years.

She "fought South America's dictators with her voice and became a giant of contemporary Latin American music" wrote Helen Popper of Reuters when Ms. Sosa's death was announced in the fall of 2009.

I listen to Ms. Sosa's music while I'm working, reading, relaxing, thinking. There's a tone and style with such a plaintive soulfulness and beautiful simplicity that cannot be found anywhere else. I highly recommend experiencing her amazing voice and style.

Amazing album

All you could ever want by Mercedes Sosa is here... well, not really... but close. Cantora 1 and 2 (her latest albums) should be in your collection as well.
This is an artist not to be missed.

A rich, expressive vocalist and a gifted interpreter, Sosa was dubbed "the voice of the silent majority" for her choice of overtly political material, and alongside artists including Violeta Parra and Atahualpa Yupanqui, she spearheaded the rise of the so-called "nueva canción"...
