EDITORS’ NOTES

Cornish trio Auction for the Promise Club whipped up a thoroughly modern indie-pop primer on their debut album. They deliver a set of danceable, New Wave-inspired songs that split the difference between Metric and Blondie, just polished enough to stick to the ribs ("See Through"), just raw enough to smear your lipstick on indie dance night ("This May Hurt"). But working with producer Paul Reeve, they also shoot for a U2-style wide-screen sweep on "Time to Breathe" and ethereal balladry on "Ghosts."
