One need not speak the Icelandic mother tongue to understand the grandeur that post-rock-indebted heavy metallers Solstafir aspire to on their sixth album. They've been active since 1995 and show a veteran's confidence here; they’re as comfortable with riffs heavy enough to shatter glaciers ("Silfur-Refur") as they are with melodies that glisten like a fjord before the hammer comes down ("Hvít Sæng"). They even have the courage to reach toward nakedly emotional, gasp-inducing moments of beauty like "Dýrafjörður."
