Customer Reviews

An artist who needs to be discovered... or maybe not..

Eric McFadden has become one of those artists that I'm conflicted about, in that I'm not sure if I want to share his music with all my friends or keep it all to myself. Clearly not enough people are enjoying his ridiculous guitar stylings, which trample all over classical Spanish guitar, gyspy arpeggio, American country, blues, heavy rock... it's all in here somewhere, and somehow it's all become something entirely different. This one's nice, quiet, McFadden alone on the mic and guitar, sounding like he's from another time.. I'd love to see a solo show, but this album's one for whisky and winter as much as it's for gin over rocks in the summer. An all-season performance, to be sure. Favorites are El Cuarto Rojo, Devil Moon (of which there's an excellent Eric McFadden Trio version on Diamonds to Coal), and Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite... I hope you give him a few minutes of your time, and he'll give you a whole new perspective on American music.
