Album Review

This lead female vocalist from Kassav' sings zouk love ballads better than anyone. Backed by the group Kassav', this is an excellent zouk classic. Import. ~ Robert Leaver & Gene Scaramuzzo, Rovi

Classic is right

"Siwo" is the "Sgt. Pepper's" of zouk. With this album you not anly get the classiest female singer to come out of the Antilles, you also get the full creative force of Kassav' in its prime. Kassav' was already the biggest act in the French Caribbean and Africa when they put their former backup singer front and center with this debut. The result was a deserved smash. "Siwo" has as many musical ideas as a Beatles album, all attached to that lilting Martinique beat. This includes an accordion rave-up ("Kaye Manman") , a romantic duet ("Kole Sere"), a dance-floor filler ("Siwo") and a polyrhythmic experiment ("Prese.") One listen and you'll be speaking Creole.

Must buy: A classic.

Wonderful

I wore this album out when I aired it years ago. Jocelyne is the "siwo" of Kassav' ......her voice is just that, syrup. I had the fantastic opportunity to interview her by phone before they came to their (I believe one and only) west coast appearance in San Francisco. I was so beside myself I had to do many takes. She was so understanding and wonderful to speak with....but I was head over heals in Zouk Love and admiration. This album is a gem!
