These docs rock my world.

Where to start?

Six Degrees is one of those albums that you'll initially listen to and not quite be sure what to make of it. But, you'll find yourself coming back to it time and again as the subtleties and intricacies of the cd begin to show themselves. The vocals are tight, with Boggess and Hope essentially trading places from song to song as the lead vocalist. Both certainly have their strengths, with Boggess (lead male) being more forceful and out front (Nevermind) with his approach, and Hope approaching many of the songs with a more laid back approach. One major exception to this is We Never Mattered, where she comes through strong and powerful, showing hints of great vocal dexterity. The guitar work (Winter on lead) is solid, respectable, and would compare favorably with many guitarists in more well-known bands. His lead work, solos, and fills provide a solid glue that holds many of the songs together. Boggess, particularly with his acoustic playing, provides solid rhythm work when needed and takes the lead on several songs. Soper rounds out the guitar section with terrific slide work and delicate layers of mandolin that one wouldn't expect to find in a straight-up rock album. The rhythm section (Robinson on bass and Nagarsheth on drums) is forceful and provides a strong driving force on many of the songs, keeping them moving forward. At other times (Tears of Gold), the two combine for a more subdued feel. Overall, this is a strong effort by a band that only released their first EP in 2009. What is even more amazing is that they are full-time practicing surgeons who treat ob/gyn cancers. With continued work, the band most certainly can find their own identity and unique sound that is a bit more coherent throughout an album. At any rate, listeners won't be disappointed and will find themselves coming back to the cd many times.
