Guitarists That Ate Your Brain

Various Artists Guitars That Ate My Brain MA-9099-2 "Guitars That Ate My Brain", a dozen mind-altering instrumentals from today's most accomplished metal axe grinders -- a twelve-headed hydra of monster guitar riffage that slashes, shreds and gnaws its way into your very psyche -- rides the lightning with enough electrifying precision to scorch and scramble your gray matter. Despite the shifting tempos and uniquely frightening technical prowess of these speed demons, a strange cohesion connects the disparate (some might call them distressing) tracks on this mammoth compilation, as if these explosive, multi-layered instrumentals were largely the work of one multi-dimensional (and quite disturbed) musical personality. In other words, true metal madness. 1. Paul Waggoner (Between The Buried And Me)- “Boot Dagger Boogie” - 2. Kris Norris (Darkest Hour)- “The Life and Times of Sir Walter Sickert” 3. Dave Martone - "Hybrid Angels" 4. Ron Thal (aka "Bumblefoot") (Guns N'Roses) - “Disengaged” 5. Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler (Daath) - "The Unwavering Collapse" 6. Shane Gibson (Korn) - “Artichoke Samurai” 7. Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad) - “Nerd Alert” 8. Chris Poland (Ohm, Megadeth) - "L.D.E." 9. Ola Frenning (Soilwork) and Christofer Malmström (Darkane) - “Hydra” 10. Mike Orlando - "Stomped" 11. James Murphy (Testament) - "Six Shooter" 12. Hugues Lefebvre and Yann Mouhad (Anthropia) - “Schrödinger's Cat Paradox”

Another Amazing Shred Compilation

If you are a shred head like me, a compilation like this is amazing. Itunes gets the good stuff every once and a while, like the alchemist compilations. But this is a grade a package!

.......

Please tell me you guys did not compare any of these guitarists to Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, least of all Paul Waggoner. First of all these are very accomplished guitarists, they just don't release solo work usually, as they perform with their respective bands. Second of all, most of these compositions sound nothing like Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. Maybe a little Frank Zappaish, but influenced, not copied by any stretch of the imagination. Just because it is solo guitarist does not make it exactly like the only other solo guitarists you know. Just like not every band with a girl lead singer sounds like Paramore. Third of all, most of these guitarists are from a metal/progressive background (except for the guitarist from Korn. Wtf is he doing on here.) and therefore have sounds that might be inaccessible to some people. That does not negate the very complex, creative, and musically dense nature of these compositions.
