iTunes Review

The songwriter transfigures personal tragedy into growling, elemental elegies. On his latest collaboration with the Bad Seeds, Nick Cave pulls us through the gorgeous, groaning terrors of “Anthrocene” and “Jesus Alone” only to deliver us, scarred but safe, to “I Need You” and “Skeleton Tree,” a pair of tender, mournful folk ballads.

Customer Reviews

Two words: Raw and Intense

This is one of the rawest, most intense albums I've heard all year. Granted, I've only heard the whole thing once in full, but I'd be damned if this didn't move me. "I Need You" is a ballad soaked in the tears of those left behind by their loved ones. For those who might not know, Cave recently lost his own son in a tragic accident. That being said, no one is more qualified to ask big questions like "why?" and get away with it in music than Nick Cave himself. He does his best and succeeds tremendously at creating an auditory epitaph for both his son and the rest of our sons. This album is essential listening for anyone who's ever lost someone close to them or watched someone they love fade away in their history. Will very likely be in my top ten this year.

2016 Album Of The Year

If it were up to me, this would be album of the year, alongside Blackstar and A Moon Shaped Pool. This is my first time discovering Nick Cave & TBS and I'm speechless. The journey this album takes you from start to finish is incredible. A great record to also own on vinyl where every song from front to back is a masterpiece. What Nick Cave is trying to convey to the listener emotionally is spot on.

Wow...

Amazing. Pure, unadulterated, emotion and bliss in darkness. I'm not even halfway through my first listen and I'm almost in tears. Fantastic output from Nick and the bad seeds. They never disappoint.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Formed after the breakup of the Birthday Party in 1983, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds became one of the most original and celebrated bands of the post-punk and alternative rock eras in the '80s and onward. Playing music that meshed with the dark, multi-layered narratives of Cave's lyrics, the Bad Seeds created sounds that were physically and emotionally powerful, but with a sense of dynamics and drama that set them apart from their peers. While plenty of musicians would move in and out of the Bad Seeds'...
