Album Review

Sleeping on the Edge of the World is David Helpling's second CD and it is a quantum leap ahead of his debut. It is still in the symphonic synthesizer style and has vast atmospheres, but Helpling has progressed in his compositional style. His sound design is more sophisticated and his soundscapes are more intricate. He weaves the atmospheres through the melodies deftly and smoothly without missing a beat. Deep listeners will go to the edge of the world with him. Helpling provides a warm respite at that stop. This is a very good CD; it will appeal to fans of Jeff Pearce, James Johnson, and J. Arif Verner.

Simply Great

I absolutely love this album and artist. In this day and age of many many forms of entertainment and so many forms to enjoy (think of how many ways we can buy music) I have always kept David Helpling at the top of my playlist and yearned for more of his creative talent. 400 CD's and many itunes buys later this guy still has a place in my collection and in my mind. When I reccomend this artist to friends I tell them to buy the CD and if they don't like it that I'll buy it back from them. (I'm not making that deal online though) I've kept my money every time.

Chilled out Listening Euphoria~

A complex soundscape with A very tranquil style. Ambient.... Spacey.... Yet renewing, energizing and uplifting at the same time.

Fantastic, Celestial, Cosmic, Incredible...

I'm so happy I found David's music, and I will say that I have Pandora to thank for that!

David and his occasional musical partner Jon Jenkins explore ground where only few have chosen to go. They make musical soundtracks that I describe as music that can be a soundtrack to life itself. "Sleeping..." especially makes for great accompanyment for any meteor shower, beach sunset, drive through the desert or a plethora of other activities.

To the guy who is saying that David is "ripping off" Patrick, who are you kidding? Sure I hear the inspiration but I also hear that David listens to Miles, Tangerine Dream, Marillion, Jean Luc Ponty & Rush because I hear those influences as well. If someone is making new music in the style of all that then all I have to say is THANK YOU.

You say this in an age where we refer to the latest Madonna impersonator as a "genius"? The biggest thing musically in the USA right now is a TV show based on a high school glee club, so dude, re-think what you wrote.

To those on the fence about making the purchase, if you already have "Treasure" and "The Crossing" then just buy the whole thing and be glad you did, because you will.
