iTunes Review

1989’s Conspiracy picks up where Them left off. We revisit the haunted manor (“Amon”) from the earlier album, as a new heir returns to fight the screaming ghosts that eliminated his forbearers. The opening song, “At the Graves,” contains so many different sections that it almost feels like an album within the album. The band’s greatest asset is their ability to bring creepy imagery to life. As the premonition of being touched by “icy fingers” turns into the full arrival of the ghosts, the band charge forward in double time, and listeners can practically see the ghosts burst through the door and assail the room. At their peak, the band could perform incredibly complex songs with rapidly shape-shifting melodies and rhythms, but they were always careful to balance their ambitious works with the straightforward hard rock riffs of “Sleepless Nights” and “Amon Belongs to Them,” both of which became fan favorites. Conspiracy climaxes with the protagonist being burned in a coffin by the villains. But that affords him the opportunity to swear revenge from beyond the grave: the ultimate reward in King Diamond’s worldview.

Customer Reviews

who cares what "they" say?

I don't care what anyone (namely i-tunes reviewer) may say, this was my fave KD album!

Shred Fest

Who writes these ITunes reviews? I seriously don't think this person even listened to "Conspiracy".

Better than they say...

I always liked this one. It got a bad rap because it followed the Them storyline but its much better produced and sounds WAY better. The songs are great, maybe not as prog-y but awesome nonetheless.

Born Kim Bendix Petersen in Denmark on June 14, 1956, the future King Diamond was originally drawn to theatrically based hard rock due to such trailblazers as Alice Cooper, and soon began fronting local bands in the '70s, including a punk metal outfit called the Brats.
