iTunes Review

Hailed as the greatest album of the rock era, Brian Wilson's masterpiece is a transcendent musical touchstone. "God Only Knows,” “Wouldn't It Be Nice,” and "Sloop John B" are evergreens in his band's repertoire. This album's resiliency has defied efforts to musically deconstruct it, which is as it should be. Peek into the fragile and wistful soul of Brian Wilson—and the hopeless, wounded romantic in us all.

Greatest Album of All Time

For anyone who is interested, here is a little background on this album. In 1965, Brian Wilson the leader and creative engine of The Beach Boys stopped touring with the band to stay in in the studio, to develop new music material. With the help of The Wrecking Crew, a instrumental musical group and Tony Asher, Brian's personal associate, Brian began to piece together the greatest spectical in music to date. Brian arranged, composed, wrote and produced all the music and lyrics used on this album, and elaboratly structured each song to coenside with the other, acting as a whole album. This idea of structuring Pet Sounds came from his inspiration and love for The Beatles 1965 album Rubber Soul which has been said by Brian himself to be a major inspiration to the album. Brian developed the instruemental tracks to the albums throughout 1965 and into 1966. Once the other Beach Boys members returned to the studio after touring in Japan, Brian and the group began to sing the songs and therefore incorporate the lyrics into the backing tracks. Altogether it was a perfect example of Brian's genius. The songs on Pet Sounds are like no other songs. They define topics of innocence as well as undescribable maturity. They reflect controversey, personal hardship and overall the soul of Brian Wilson himself. The deluxe, imaginary instruments combined with the deep, heartfelt lyrics create an album that is like noother. For any music lover and especially for the obbsessive 60's fans, this is an absolute listen "right now". Buy this album and praise Brian's Wilsons masterpiece.

Possibly the most influential album of all time 😱

WOW! Just revisited this phenomenal album 50 years later ❤️

I was 13 years old in 1966...I rode my bike to our local Eckerd's Drug Store at Grove Park Shopping Center in Lakeland, Florida. I purchased Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys and rode home to listen...suddenly, our old hi-fi stereo turned into a sanctuary...masterful, mystical, spiritual sounds and lyrics poured into today, 50 years later, I hear an amazing review of Pet Sounds on NPR and through the magic of iTunes I am transported to another time and another place...awesome ❤️

Beginning their career as the most popular surf band in the nation, the Beach Boys finally emerged by 1966 as America's preeminent pop group, the only act able to challenge (for a brief time) the overarching success of the Beatles with both mainstream listeners and the critical community. From their 1961 debut with the regional hit "Surfin'," the three Wilson brothers -- Brian, Dennis, and Carl -- plus cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine constructed the most intricate, gorgeous harmonies ever...
