Editors’ Notes

Connick arranged these selections himself, so even classic gems like the Beatles’ “And I Love Her” as well as the Elvis Presley hit “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” sound like the kinds of ‘40s cocktail jazz numbers covered by various members of the Rat Pack during the early ‘60s — though the trumpet solo at the end of the latter sounds more like Chuck Mangione than Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis, who actually recorded it (his brother Branford also contributes some saxual healing on the album). Connick’s father Harry Connick, Sr. (former district attorney of the Parish of Orleans) suggested the Spanish sung “Bésame Mucho.” Even Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are” hardly resembles the theme song for TV sitcom Bosom Buddies, though it treads dangerously close to Barry Manilow territory. A sunny rendition of Burt Bacharach’s “(They Long to Be) Close to You” is a true standout.

Love Harry Connick...but....

I love this guy - have loved his music from the moment he 'stepped out there', THIS particular album though has NONE of the pizzazz and "umph" that we love Harry for!!
Where is THAT guy?? He is missing from this endevour, darn it!
We love you too much, Harry, to settle for this - it's bland, pastie and needs your special something!!
What do YOU think?? :o?

Where are you, Harry?

I've been a huge Harry fan for over 15 years, and I'll buy anything he puts out, but I must say, I really miss the Harry Connick, Jr. of the 'Blue Light, Red Light' days. He had his own, very distinct sound back then. 'Your Songs' has some bright moments, but overall, I was left wanting. I love his rendition of 'Your Song', but most of the rest of the arrangements didn't do it for me. I miss songs like "Just Kiss Me" and "The Last Payday" and "Recipe for Love". Heck, I even liked his funk albums! I hate to say it, but I just don't see myself listening to this one very often.

It's Great

I love Harry Connick Jr. He is such a great singer that sings from the heart. He is really classy in this new CD. My favorites include 'The Way You Look Tonight', 'Your Song', and 'Mona Lisa'. 5 stars!

With very few exceptions, the career of Harry Connick, Jr., can be divided in half — his first two albums encompassed straight-ahead New Orleans jazz and stride piano while his later career (which paralleled his rising celebrity status) alternated between more contemporary New Orleans music and pop vocals with a debt to Frank Sinatra. Born in New Orleans on September 11, 1967, Connick grew up the son of two lawyers who owned a record store. After beginning on keyboards at the age of three,...
