Infinitely Interesting

In a world full of Nashville formula-borne flash and sparkle songwriting, for sure some epic but also much of which is mundane, and the vapid lyric writers and singers bank-rolled by buddies who would live vicariously through their beneficiaries attempts at stardom, comes an anthology of songs by a writer that personifies the term "true-to-one's-self."

Few know that it was Paul Brady behind tunes like "Luck of the Draw" covered by Bonnie Raitt, or "The Island" covered recently by Celtic Thunder and many others. Or, that it's Paul Brady who legends like Mark Knopler, and Eric Clapton and other master musicians seek out purely for the joy and experience of playing together and the mutual inspiration found in doing so.

"Anthology" is a sonic supper to take one away if only for a while from the troubles of this and so many other lands and lives. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen. One can imagine the tunes done so many different ways and by so many different artists - its not the engineering, its not the musicianship, or the vocals, although all are more than adequate if not outstanding - its the tracks and footprints left behind by a craftsman-in-full-stride; its great songwriting. So, listen closely.

Wonderful, Powerful

Just listened to this great and diverse album. What a rich treat! Tight arrangements with superb players give a great stage for Paul's soulful singing. You won't go wrong with this!

An inspiring tour of the Brady repertoire

I discovered this album after a couple of decades of fascination with Paul Brady's intensity, lyricism, and capacity to soar melodically. Noticing that Paul is opening for Bonnie Raitt on a tour that brings them to Tampa in December 2014, I found Dancer in the Fire as I re-immersed myself in Paul's artistry in preparation for the concert. This comprehensive album is a respectful present from the artist to older fans who know and appreciate Paul's work and to new acquaintances who want to study his work from the 1970s forward. At the price, this is truly a gift.

Talented and prolific singer Paul Brady has enjoyed a career that has seen him pass through several major bands and on to a successful solo phase. He began performing as a hotel piano player in Donegal, Ireland at the age of sixteen and graduated to being guitarist, during the 1960s, in two rhythm and blues bands: Rockhouse and the Cult. There followed a stint with the Johnstons as a guitarist and singer that ended in 1974, and a shorter one with Planxty that saw Brady touring extensively but recording...
