Oh My God!!!

I love this album. It's very experimental and features psychedelic elements. Love their style. Would recommend it.

A few critical listens, and my opinion changed

My first reaction to this record (after listening a LOT to Pet Sounds, and Smile Sessions) was disappointment. I suppose after hearing the promise Smile from Smile Sessions, this pared down record seemed like it was rushed, forced, and compromised.

Then I decided to listen to the album in a dark, quiet place while attempting to recreate the place Brian Wilson and the band may have been in 1967. I did this a few times, and suddenly ,y opinion changed.

What I discovered was the interesting nuances of the record -- interesting stereo mix of vocals, odd sounds buried deep in the background, odd sounds up front in the mix, beautiful yet simple harmonies and melodies -- and I found myself liking the record.

I believe this record was meant to be listened to in the dark, using headphones, while allowing your mind to relax. I have heard Brian Wilson say that about Pet Sounds....I believe he would say the same thing about Smiley Smile, too.

Sure it did not have the depth or breadth of what I heard on Smile Sessions. But listening to this record in the right atmosphere is a fun way to spend an evening.

A stoney, intimate, weird release

I love this album because of how random and innocent it sounds. Often overlooked, but honestly one of my favorite beach boys albums because of its uniqueness and how it relates to the epic Smile! album. A great album to smoke a joint with!
