THE REAL DEAL

There are so many fake-Platters on the market, with the help of your prior reviews, I landed on the Magic Touch Anthology album and found the Real Deal!! While some other lead singers do a credible job, nobody can touch Tony Williams and the difference is huge especially when you hear to the high-notes in My Prayer and Ebb Tide. Williams is the greatest singer of a generation and that is why he was the lead and Herb Reed sang backup. Zola Taylor, the original, is also featured on a few cuts. This is THE PLATTERS as we all remember them... a great buy with 50 seclections for twenty bucks!! Thanks to the previous reviewers for leading me to this selection.

Classiest Rock 'n Soulers

The Platters surfaced in the late 50s and became the premier and first acceptable black rock group on white r 'n r stations, while they recorded for Mercury. They were welcomed into your white home on Ed Sullivan and in full Technicolor films like "The Girl Can't Help It." They were pure class, always in tuxedos or sharp suits and established a dress sense for doo-woppers and were also the first mixed (male & female) r 'n r artists with Zola Taylor. Lead vocalist Tony Williams had the sweetest sound with an enormous vocal range, while the smallest man in the group, Herb, had the deepest voice. They had smash hit after smash hit and most of them are here and they seem to be the original recordings.

The Best I've Heard So Far...

This two disc set really is the BEST of the Platters, and by the Originals I may add, you won't be dessapointed - I sure wasn't.
