iTunes Review

Sierra and Bianca Casady seemingly go out of their way to annoy the average listener. Yet, over the years, they’ve matured into an adventurous duo worth giving a second and third chance. The melodies still slip through your hands like so much beach sand and there are enough weird arrangements to make you wonder if they record their albums in a novelty shop. But allow yourself the chance to enjoy their weirdness and the songs unfold as haunting and playful. “Trinity’s Crying” sounds like something heard in the wind on a stormy night as you traipse up to the belfry. “Smokey Taboo” and “The Moon Asked the Crow” sound like what G-Funk hip-hop might sound like in the hands of art students or nature freaks. “Undertaker” wanders off in search of the words to match the music’s fairy dust. Stringed instruments saw their way back to Nico’s The Marble Index and the piano finally settles them into the song. “R.I.P. Burn Face,” despite its tough-talk title, is a gentle, swooning piece that leans on freaky folk to find its electronic groove. These sisters have much to teach us.

Cocorosie has still got it

This is certainly the most polished of all the Cocorosie albums. I'm loving the piano on this one. As usual, their music leaves me amazed and a bit bewildered. I feel that writing about such a polarizing group is almost pointless. You either "get" them, or you don't, and no amount of music criticism will change your opinion either way.

New Sound/Still Brilliant

Grey Oceans is different than CocoRosie's previous albums but still just as BRILLIANT. Most accessible songs include "Hopscotch", "The Moon Asked the Crow", "Lemonade", "R.I.P. Burn Face". The entire album is solid though and well worth the $10 price tag. Buy it, you wont regret it.

Ah-Mazing

I've had a love affair with CocoRosie since I discovered them on accident some years back. This album is a different feel than the earlier works, but I think it will reach a farther audience, and its still genius and unique. Such a beautiful sound, I have been listening to it nonstop. Favorite songs "R.I.P. Burn Face", "Lemonade", "Undertaker", "The Moon asked the Crow", but they are all so great. I can't wait to see them live in July!

Biography

Formed: 2003 in Paris, France

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

The luminously lovely indie folk-tronic duo CocoRosie consists of the Casady sisters, vocalist/guitarist/harpist Sierra and vocalist/percussionist Bianca. Both sisters had an early love of music that they pursued as they grew up, albeit in different ways: Sierra began operatic vocal training while she was in high school, while Bianca sang and wrote songs but kept them to herself. That is, until she reconnected with Sierra, who joined Bianca at her Paris apartment, and they started playing and recording...
