Great Hard Rock/Proto-Metal

May Blitz is a an album that pushed the boundaries of how hard music was in 1970. Yes, there are albums before it that are harder, but they didn't have the unique heavy, jazzy, progressive blues sound that this album has, especially in the songs "Dreaming", "Smoking the Day Away" and "I Don't Know?" The album has a very dark and ominous feel to it and the band creates a very full sound considering that May Blitz consisted of only 3 musicians. The songs are consistently good and have many delightful and surprising changes in them. This album foreshadows the pure metal sound that can be seen on their next album: "2nd of May." It is unfortunate that they didn't receive the support from Vertigo Records necessary to succeed as a band, which caused their demise after only two albums. Great, driving music.

May Blitz was one of the first four bands signed by eminent progressive and heavy rock label, Vertigo, along with future legends Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, and the largely forgotten Juicy Lucy, whose less fortunate fate they would unfortunately share, in the end.
