Another Good Game Soundtrack!!!

I'm a big fan of Michael Giacchino ever since I first played Medal of Honor and picked up the soundtrack for the whole series. I also found out about Chris Tilton eventually when I listened to Mercenaries game soundtrack. This album has similar sounds to Mercenaries but it is much more "ambient" and utilizes string instruments more and percussion. So if you like all action then don't expect that. The soundtrack was short but nonetheless it was a definite growth from the last time I listened to Chris. There is still some action parts in the score and I know thats what the fans tend to like the most. Nice work overall...can't wait for more!

One Of Giacchino's Top 10 Scores

Even though the score is composed by Chris Tilton, it is over-produced by Michael Giacchino, meaning Tilton was basically told what to do. Michael Giacchino is a legend in the video game music world, and is currently becoming a popular film and TV composer. He started the trend of dramatic scores in video games, starting from the original Medal of Honor. He co-composed the themes for Black, and a hint of Medal of Honor can be heard, but an entirely new theme is created here. Giacchino is a man of violins, he uses violins to create suspense in previous compositions and TV shows like Lost and Alias. Here, he finds a new use of violins, and that is to create action and drama, and it is done to perfection with the assisstance of his friend Chris Tilton. I would like to have a Top 10 Best Scores for Michael Giacchino, but he has composed only approximately 10 available scores. So everything he has composed would be on that list, so all I can say is that this is a MUST BUY! Why? Mainly because it is an amazing piece of work, but also because this score is only available on iTunes and I consider it to be a rare find and a perfect addition to any music collection.

Michael Giacchino, The Next John Williams? Or Just Another Graeme Revell?

Chris Tilton & Michael Giacchino have really created a sweeping score that seams to blend traditiona Hollywood Orcestra with triumphant and heroic themes of Patriotisim as well as capture that "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Black Hawk Down" feel, in essence, not the score of those films. There are some infulences from Michael's more violent and uncomfortable current works with the TV Show "Lost" but it doesn't really detract from the score. Michael is fast aproching the greatness of John Williams or Harry Gregson-Williams, perhapps his next project we will see this greatness? Overall Black is one of the best Video Game Soundtracks to come along in some time.
