iTunes Review

A rapper/producer from Hempstead on New York's Long Island, Roc Marciano got his start in the late '90s with Busta Rhymes and Flipmode Squad, appearing on tracks like "The Heist." A few years later, he formed his own group, The UN, dropping UN or U Out in 2004. Since then, he's become an in-demand collaborator, working with big dogs like Pete Rock and Wu-Tang, constantly raising his profile, and setting the stage for this debut solo album, released in 2010. Produced entirely by himself, with only one guest appearance (Bucktown favorite Sean Price), Marcberg takes listeners back to the glory days of Timb boots and Ron G mixtapes, when Times Square was more hookers and less Applebee's and only women wore tight pants. His unusual, shape-shifting rhyme style impresses on every track, while his minimalist beats set the tone perfectly with minor-key organs, weird guitar snippets, and crispy drums. It's a high-caliber effort from one of New York's finest.

Roc Marciano!!!! U.N.?

Yo, I;ve been checkin' for Roc Marciano since his days with Flipmode and always wondered why he never came out and did his own project. This album is a banger for those who love that NY lyrical hip-hop. I am all on it. ROC MARC!!!!

one of the best rap cds of 2010

roc came out, not alot of noise, and drops marcberg, and dang is it good. people might say that its reminiscent of early 90s NYC rap, but this is a fresh new take on east coast rap. roc spits nice, and he did all the beats himself and they are bumpin and knockin, only one guest verse (like ready to die). not a whole lot of dudes are up on roc when they should be, its too bad people lump him into a tired genre of NYC rap when this dude is droppin gems. HATER COMMENT alert: all those swag rappers should get up on magic and listen to this dude

Hard to believe more people don't know about this one. Hip Hop at its finest!

Roc Marciano is an MC from New York City's tradition-rich Long Island. His work, first with the U.N. Crew and later as a solo artist, is quintessential New York underground. His moody, claustrophobic production and stream-of-consciousness, heavily stylized lyrics made him one of his era's most underappreciated auteurs. Born Rakeem Myer, Long Island hip-hop steered his musical vision, approach, and tastes as a youth growing up in Hempstead. He cited L.I. greats such as Public Enemy, EPMD, De La Soul,...
