iTunes Review

It's hard to believe it's been nearly a decade since Akon first hit the scene with his breakout single "Locked Up." He was born in Senegal and raised in Jersey City, and his unique vocal style sounds like nobody else in the game. He soon found himself as an in-demand hook-master, singing on tracks with the likes of Young Jeezy ("Soul Survivor") and Eminem ("Smack That"). He's also a talented producer with a knack for minimal yet catchy beats. His debut album, Trouble, went double-platinum, while the follow-up Konvicted sold more than 3 million in the States alone. His third album, Freedom, was more of a straight pop effort without the street-centric lyrics, and was by far his least popular to date. On Koncrete, he hopes to revamp his career and returns to his earlier style of hustle-minded lyricism, strategically mixed with some serious love jams for the ladies. It's a 10-track mixtape hosted by DJ Noodles; if you're already an Akon fan, you're in for a treat. Piles of synths, claps, snaps, and occasional acoustic guitars dominate, while highlights include "Top Chef," "Searchin for Love," and "Make It in the City."

Still waiting for you to come back

I want another album like Freedom. I’m a huge fan, but don’t go with people who have no talent like Future and Ca$h Out. That style is terrible.

No just no

What about his other albums this is terrible!

Wow Very Impressive

Akon has always been a personal favorite!
His voice is amazing. When he goes away from the rap world forever people will remember him as a classy stylish rapper with an edge. Not to mention his overall length in the industry is phenomenal extemporaneous. Please dont leave i do see this album is vol. 1 HOPE FOR VOL. 2 in vol. 2(if there is one!) pls add more than 10 songs and add some old hits with a remix. My
Favorite song in vol. 1 so far is "Keep Up" WE(me) WANT A CONCERT! I am a guy and i want to be honest when i say that his voice is perfect. In the rap ind. you must "keep up" with the new styles and when ever body is rap crap you have to be different. Akon is different! MAKING HIS INCREDIBLE STATEMENT WITH VOL. 1 THANKS A!

Although he was born in St. Louis, Missouri, singer, songwriter, and producer Aliaune Thiam -- aka Akon -- grew up in Senegal before he and his family (including his father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam) returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey when he was seven. There he discovered hip-hop for the first time, as well as crime. He was eventually jailed but he used the time -- a total of three years, he claimed -- to work on his musical ideas. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording...
