iTunes Review

The other half of the Eurythmics, Dave Stewart has spent most of his time since behind the mixing board, producing albums for a number of notable artists over the past few decades. He is part of the new Mick Jagger supergroup Super Heavy, while this long-awaited solo album was recorded in a scant five days at Martina and John McBride’s Blackbird Studios in Nashville. Ironic that a master producer would choose to record his tracks mostly live and with much of the rawness intact. Yet, that is exactly what you hear on the brutal blues of “Beast Called Fame,” the country-folk of “Magic In the Blues” and the tender ballad “All Messed Up” with Martina McBride. They are still polished recordings, considering the high level of talent in the room, but they are every bit performances. Stevie Nicks harmonizes on the piano duet “Cheaper Than Free.” This is roots music with a dose of mainstream pop. The Deluxe Edition includes the touching bonus track “Natalie Wood” and six videos.

This album is such a refreshing take on an amazing genre of music... multiple genres actually. LOVE the blend of style, love the hooks and love that DS is doing it differently... again!

Love this type of music

You got to hand it to Dave Stewart. He managed to make country, rock, blues album that sounds old-school, yet very fresh. The man can write excellent songs and actually has a voice. This album has a down-and-out vibe to it that I love. My favorite tracks are The Well, Cheaper Than Free, Country Wine, Stevie Baby and All Messed Up. However, the whole thing is a gem. Buy it.

a gem of an album

this album has an authentic roots feel and is a reminder that Dave Stewart knows how to craft a fantastic album. great guitar work by ace session guitarist Tom Bukovac as well as some powerful duets with the likes of Stevie Nicks and Martina McBride. don't miss out on this one. 5 stars

Genre: Rock

Best known as one-half of the groundbreaking synth pop duo Eurythmics, Dave Stewart was also a highly successful producer and, on occasion, a solo artist. David A. Stewart (as he also sometimes was credited on record) was born September 9, 1952 in Sunderland, England; the product of an upper-middle class family, he enjoyed his first taste of musical success during the early '70s while fronting the band Longdancer. The group seemed poised for big things after signing to Elton John's Rocket Records,...
