Album Review

This British LP has some of Astrud Gilberto's finest early recordings. The cool-toned bossa nova singer is heard at her best on "The Girl from Ipanema," "Meditation," "Corcovado," "Bim-Bom," "One Note Samba" and "It Might As Well Be Spring." Unfortunately, the liner notes, which do sum up her importance well, say nothing about the exact recording dates or personnel. However, listeners running across this appealing album are advised to pick it up anyway, for it is an excellent sampler.

Customer Reviews

Mmm, this music, warm evening and a large cognac.

A collection of great songs old and new. Great music for relaxing and doing nothing.

Astrid's best ever

Astrid Gilberto is the Divas' Diva. A Brazilian once in a lifetime talent that is truly the Girl from Ipanema that turned the world on to Bossa Nova & Jobim's GENIUS. An unknown last minute replacement that is a gift from G-d. A singular Voice FOREVER that will give decades+ of enjoyment to those that can appreciate it. Brazil's gift to the world as long as there are Music Lovers on Earth!!!
This is a true MUST HAVE in a Jazz Aficionado's Music Collection that won't disappoint EVER.

Love it!

Love this album to feel relaxed and happy no matter how stressful my day is! Astrud's voice is calming and soothing...

Though her appearance at the studio to record "The Girl From Ipanema" was due only to her husband João, one of the most famed Brazilian artists of the century, Gilberto's...
