An Absolute Gem!

This is ECM Records at its best. Towner, Garbarek, Walcott, et al, were stalwarts with that label and a perfect fit with Gismonti's multi-faceted approach. "World Music" from before the term was coined. This is one of the few albums that I played from start to finish over and over at the first listening! It doesn't grow on you, it envelopes you.

While looking for a copy of "Duas Voces" twenty-five years ago, I was also intrigued by this album. The domestic ECM pressing rapidly became a favorite, and the German import is one of my treasures in life. The chemistry with the percussionists (both the late Colin Walcott and Nana Vasconcelos) and with Ralph Towner is just incredible. The interplay of Gismonti and Towner on "Palacio de Pinturas" will take you to another place and time. The quiet tension of "Raga" still gives me goosebumps. It's great to have a version of this album that I can take with me. If you do have a good turntable, the vinyl is also worth the search.

Just stunning.

After years of listening to this album, it is still one of my favorites.
