got my ziggens greatest zits

this is a good collection but it needs "all the fun that we missed"

we need to play more Ziggens songs

The Ziggens are one of the most intriguing eclectic punk bands, of comparable quality to Camper Van Beethoven, the Meat Puppets, and the Dead Milkmen. Most people have only heard the songs that Bradley Nowell covered on the "Firecracker Lounge" bootleg: "Big Salty Tears" and "Tim the Dinosaur." But the rest of the material on Greatest Zits is just as wonderful as those two classics. On disc one, there's the nostalgic catchy country tune "On the Way," the quirky ballad "Pistol Pete," the somewhat melancholic "Strange Way to Live" and "Call It Quits," the awesome surf punk of "Outside" (which Sublime actually sampled on their cover of the Toyes' "Smoke Two Joints"), the hilarious comedy punk of "I Took My Mom to the Prom" and "Something About a Waitress." The bonus second disc is just as essential as the first, with some of the best surf rock revival instrumentals I've heard, especially "Stranded on Clicker Island" and "Surfin' Buena Park," as well as three more substantial non-instrumental tracks: "Surf's Up," "Really Bad Sunburn," and the relaxing "San Clemente." The Ziggens themselves chose the track listing to Greatest Zits, and they did so with flying colors. 5/5

Biography

Formed: Orange County, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Known for their eccentric, goofy, humorous way of blending punk and surf rock (sometimes with a definite country influence), the Ziggens aren't a major name in the rock world but have enjoyed a small cult following since the early '90s. The Ziggens have always been based in Orange County, CA, just south of Los Angeles — a logical place for artists who are into surf rock — and the four-man band has a long list of influences from different musical eras. Clearly, they're into '60s surf favorites...
