A Wonderful California Album That You Can Hear Again and Again

Here is an excellent album from a talented singer-songwriter. Deborah Crooks was raised in California and she is still there, soaking up the sun and the songs. Her recent album "Something Special", is a collection of vivid story-telling with nuances of California flavors.

One of my favorite tracks on the album is "India Street". It's a story about being lost in San Diego but there are also hints of expressions about faith. The lyrics are thoughtful and sunny in a California style. "India Street runs south. Washington runs to the water. Man jogs by sweating out his day, million ways we all pray". As Deborah sings in her appealing voice, a compelling guitar from Kwame Copeland returns her melody in playful lines. It's a wonderful California song that you can hear again and again. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who loves excellent folk music from the Golden State.
