Customer Reviews

Outstanding Jazz, Swing, Funk

On the back of the vinyl cover is a review that perfectly describes the way I feel about this album:

"It seem very natural today to think of jazz in conjunction with rock. And the jazz rock sound seems to flow just as natural from the instruments of Clarence Wheeler and The Enforcers…four gentle-men who met, merged and managed to cultivate a very distinct sound in spite of the many groups of their type. This is only their second trip at album making, but they're making it baby!

Together is obvious from the first track- a cooking, rocking thing called Mighty Burner. Don't try to sit still when you hear it. You can't, you feel it. You wanna dance…do it.

Sonny Burke is quite moving with his tender intro on We've Only Just Begun. Notice how he establishes the melody in a rock-a-ballad fashion and builds it just enough for Sonny Covington to ease in and 'blow your mind!'. It's downright sensuous. This unique break into suspended funk seems to be a kind of trademark with The Enforcers as is also evident in their treatment of Hey Jude on the first album.

There is goodness throughout the album. Check please Clarence Wheeler's soothing soulful version of Something and note the contrast on his gusty horn in Hey Western Union Man. That's feeling, that's versatility and all of that's Clarence Wheeler.

Time and space does not permit me to express all of my emotions about this album, but I'm glad. Glad because it just gives you more time to really get into it. Let's share the music, love.
