iTunes Review

Though her music has attained recognition as it’s been included in many feature films (Strange Days, Stealing Beauty), Lori Carson remains a much overlooked singer-songwriter with many fine albums to her credit. Everything I Touch Runs Wild, her third solo effort, is arguably her best, a near-perfect collection that combines her innate pop sense (“Something’s Got Me”) with an obsessive need to self-reflect at every turn (“Make A Little Luck,” “Whole Heart”). Carson’s breathy, intimate vocals (“Snow Come Down”) give her compositions a voyeuristic, diary-like setting from which her delicately-picked acoustic guitars breathe life. An expert cast of accompanists — guitarist Knox Chandler, cellist Jane Scarpantoni, drummer Anton Fier, for whose Golden Palominos Carson has sung — never overpower these fragile proceedings. A quiet cover of Todd Rundgren’s “I Saw the Light” points towards Carson’s muted pop side, but it’s the ambient, imagistic rush of “Train” that best exemplifies this songwriter’s efforts to perfectly mesh sound and image.

A Hidden Gem

I've loved Lori ever since her work with Golden Palominos. Everything I Touch Runs Wild is one of my favorite albums. I leave it stuck in the back of my iTunes library where I reserve its listenening for special moments. It's too powerful to put on just any time, and too personal to play in front of others. It's one of the rarest things: music that speaks so directly to my emotional state that I feel better just knowing someone else feels the same way.

I was turned on in the 90'S

My "future" husband turned me on to this disc after we had purchased Golden Palominios "Pure". I often would listen to this in my warehouse studio, the tunes just floated through the air. It made me feel delicate and sure like a woman in love. I never look at the song list and after listening to it a couple of time I realized that it had several versions of "Something's got me". I never bored of it and when I hear it now it takes me back to when I was a single gal living a life that most dream of. Very dreamy music. Let it take you somewhere and know that it will always be with you.

Underated for Sure

Snow come down is a fantastic but depresssing song. Its on a soundtrack with Jennifer Conelly and Billy Crudup(always forget the movie). This matches any of Aimee Manns stuff if not better. Snow come down will change your life

Although Lori Carson's name may not automatically come to mind when discussing the best singer-songwriters of the late '90s, it doesn't mean that she isn't deserving of such accolades. Although she has received much critical acclaim and acquired many fans along the way, her talents have unfortunately gone unrecognized (hopefully this will soon change in the Lilith Fair-friendly late '90s). Beginning with her debut in 1990, Shelter, Carson was predicted to be a major recording force by the likes of...
