Revival of American Music

This is the 4th- and final-offering from Old Town School of Folk Music and Bloodshot Records. This album reinterprets songs from the American roots tradition and gives them a relivant and alluring spin. Casey Dreissen's verion of Lay Me Down a Pallet is almost and Bill Brickey does a soulful and jazzy version of the old spiritual "Welcome Table". A stand out on the album is Emily Hurd and Michael Schenkelberg's "Mail Myself To You". They have taken a more obscure Woody Guthrie tune and breathed life into it with their Otis Redding type arrangment: lush and tastful strings, trickeling mandolin lines, and the inspired vocals of Emily Hurd. Her soaring and passionate voice makes you wish she was singing to just to you. Reintroduce yourself to the rich musical history on our country and explore the current and inventive arrangements of these musicians.
