About Signum Quartett

Based in Cologne, the Signum Quartet was formed in 1994. After working with the Alban Berg Quartet, the Artemis Quartet, and the Melos Quartet, the group participated in competitions such as the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, the Premio Paolo Borciani Competition, and the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. It also appeared at music festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival of Music, the BBC Proms, and the Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence. Comprised of violinists Florian Donderer and Annette Walther, violist Xandi van Dijk, and cellist Thomas Schmitz, the quartet has given concerts in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and England, and toured throughout Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The Signum Quartet has appeared at many of the major venues in Europe, such as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Cité de la Musique, and the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, among other concert halls. The quartet is regularly heard in radio broadcasts of the BBC, ARD, Deutschlandfunk, DRS, ORF, and Arte, and has recorded for Capriccio Records and PentaTone Classics. ~ Blair Sanderson
