Editors’ Notes

Divas know good music. Initially Eric Hutchinson was groomed to break on Madonna's Maverick Records, but after the label folded Hutchinson remained largely unknown until blogosphere sublebrity Perez Hilton fawned over an advance copy of his third album. Of course it helps that the songs here are well worthy of all accolades. Sounds Like This reveals Hutchinson as a soulful singer and a blossoming songwriter who records the kinds of organically festive jams that can get the most rhythmically challenged of folks to toe-tap in time. The album opening piano pounding funk of "OK, It's Alright With Me" feels like walking into a party already in full swing. The stomping "You Don't Have To Believe Me" could be The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson auditioning for a remake of Jesus Christ Superstar. And the reggae tinged "Rock & Roll" is an outstanding insta-hit that will bring beachy warmth to your speakers. The two live bonus cuts recorded from the World Café prove that Hutchinson doesn't need fancy production to sound as good as he naturally does.

An Oncoming Wonder

Eric Hutchinson is a talented young artist who's not given enough credit for his abilities. He breathes life into all of his lyrics, and brings an uplifting, light-hearted sound. I call him a mix of Gavin Degraw and Jason Mraz: A passionate voice, with a crazy, fun approach to music. This album is worth every penny. I just saw him in concert tonight, and believe or not, he's even better live. Songs I recommend: -ok, it's alright with me -food chain -rock & roll -outside villanova -it hasn't been long enough

Perfect Fall blend

It's the best of Gavin DeGraw, mixed with the fun of Jason Mraz, with a dash of old-school Elton John. My new favorite!!

Thought this would be new material... but gotta show the love!

I guess I got the album back when it came out on Madonna's label, since I've been playing this at parties since spring 2007. Catchy, bouncy, put you in a good mood kind of music. My two favorite tracks are Ok, Its Alright with Me and Oh! I was so excited when I heard Rock & Roll on the radio this week, but he deserved his popularity more than a year ago. He must be tired of promoting these same ol' songs! I eagerly await a truly new album. All of his songs are so solid, I would buy his next album songs unheard!

Few stories underscore the radical changes experienced by the post-millennial music industry than that of Eric Hutchinson. Originally nurtured and then abandoned by an established label started by a pop superstar, Hutchinson then got discovered by a much larger audience while unsigned, thanks to a digital plug by a notorious Hollywood gossip.
