Customer Reviews

Brilliant!

Listening to a new ALO release reminds me of receiving a packet of letters from friends who are traveling far away. Energetic and intelligent, this group continues to delight.

As others have pointed out, you must see them perform live - fantastic stuff!

Great Album!

Celebrating 20-years of musical storytelling, ALO is one of the great jam bands—impressionistic yet intelligently creative; groovy and danceable; humorous; able to stand alongside the likes of Phish and the Grateful Dead.

IMHO, "Sounds Like This" is certainly their best album yet, opening with what I perceive a tribute: Dead Still Dance. Upon hearing it I immediately wanted to drop my iPad, raise my arms and dance.

Zach is one of the great storytellers; Cowboys and Chorus Girls is such a tale and begins with a long introduction like a Sergio Leone movie or Steven King's "Gunslinger." The feeling of the old west is there, created by Lebo's reverberating A and E-strings, and I felt myself ambling, with an empty canteen, horseback along a southwestern desert valley surrounded by clear skies, purple sage and rattlesnakes.

Storms and Hurricanes, Reviews (from here to Zed), and Blow out the Walls are my other favorites. Each features the classical pop training of these fine musicians, Zach, Lebo, Steve and Brogan. Together they have produced this album for us jammed with soul and aliveness, enough to blow out the walls!

Another great album gentleman.

ALO has a sound that keeps my foot tapping. Thanks for the great tunes. Can't wait to see you guys in Boston this Thursday.

A band with improvisational tendencies and a laid-back California vibe, ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) became a hit on the jam band circuit while enjoying a close association with superstar Jack Johnson. Members Zach Gill (keyboards/vocals), Steve Adams (bass/vocals), and Dan Lebowitz (guitars/vocals) had all known one another since their days at Saratoga High School, but it wasn't until their relocation to Santa Barbara that they decided to form a band. While studying at the University of California,...
