iTunes Editors’ Notes

In Through the Out Door, Led Zeppelin’s final studio album, was also one of the few pre-SoundScan era releases to debut atop the Billboard chart. Coming after a three-year-plus wait, the record delivers some of Zeppelin’s most ambitious work. The Latin-tinged “Fool in the Rain” again demonstrates the quartet’s unique approach to dance music, while the pomp-rock spectacular “Carouselambra” allows John Paul Jones’ keyboards to take the spotlight. The definitively silly country romp “Hot Dog,” though, is maybe the least typical thing to ever come from this always surprising band. And the album's closer, “I’m Gonna Crawl,” proves that Led Zep had hardly forgotten the meat-and-potatoes thud that first won them an audience. If a great band need leave the stage, let it always be with such happily venturesome sounds.

Brilliant

A brilliant finish to Led Zeppelin's musical career. Yes, they are the greatest rock band of all time. The addition of synths to their sound works, "purists" may disagree, but this band was never "purist" anyway in the way they reinterpreted the blues and incorporated other influences from folk to funk to electronics. This is just a great album.

Well worth a listen

Not their best by any means, but still better then a lot that was out there at the time. Carouselambra may be my favorite Led Zep song that most have never heard (along with "In The Light") - it's hard to listen to without smiling

my childhood

If you were born in the 70’s and your big brother had every Zeppelin vinyl, you played with the pop up windows on physical graffiti, and loved this album too with it’s diverse departure from the previous style. But what does a little girl know about rock n roll..? It’s fun. Cheerful. Experimental..artistic. Buy it.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band,...
