iTunes Review

The Doobie Brothers were a classic rock staple with smooth, catchy songs that boogied—and country music circa 2014 has more in common with classic rock than with the country music of the ‘50s and ’60s. So, it’s an easy transition for The Doobie Brothers to invite a variety of country singers to join their vocalists on the hits. Sure enough, Blake Shelton and Tom Johnston tee off on “Listen to the Music.” Sara Evans takes on “What a Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald in fine form, and Patrick Simmons and The Zac Brown Band work on “Black Water” as if the songs had been written with them in mind.

Breath of Fresh Air

After growing up in the Bay Area with The Doobies (saw them starting out in a coffee house) and hearing them many times in concert (great band and songwriters), its great to hear new fresh versions of these time-worn songs. After classic rock radio has worn out these great songs to the point I turned off the radio, and I made the decision to stop going to see them in concert because I got tired of hearing the same songs (as good as they play them), its really a breath of fresh air to hear new versions. And I love the country-flavor. Wish more artists would re-invent their hits in the same way. Kudos to The Doobies! Great job….

WHY?

Why? I’ll stick with the original timeless classics.

Can’t get better than this!!!

I just saw the Doobie Brothers and I saw Chris Young, ZBB and they did the DB songs as covers and I thought to myself- Self that would be so cool if they ever did some crossroads, and they did it.. So Happy. Can’t wait to hear the rest of them… The Best of the Past, with the Present and the Future. Love It.

As one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the '70s, the Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop band by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along with a number of radio hits like "Listen to the Music," "Black Water," and "China Grove." The roots of the Doobie Brothers lie in Pud, a short-lived California country-rock band in the vein of Moby Grape featuring...
