The Breakthrough?

I've got my fingers crossed. The talent on this CD is amazing! Not only does Eric Steckel play the guitar like a madman on this album, but he also plays all of the keyboards....and as far as I'm concerned, it's the keys that make the album really shine. The textured organ solos and background parts make the songs feel altogether more "whole". It's great. But Eric is a guitarist first and foremost and thus the guitar is appropriately amazing. Listen to the beautiful acoustic textures on "Tuscany" or the almost spooky "Smilin' Liar" to get a feel for how great his playing range is. And of course when he plugs in the songs really take off--the solos on "The Ghetto" are insane! Also, the instrumental "Southern Skyline" is breathtaking. The singing is very good as well. I wish the drums had been mixed a bit more into the foreground, as sometimes they feel a little 'small' in comparison to the rest of the album's sounds, but that might just be because of the giant force that Eric is when he's playing at full force. All in all, this is an excellent CD, and I hope it's his big break.

Eric and I have been friends since we were freshmen together. We're now both seniors and over time I realized how hard he's worked and how incredibly talented he really is. Though I typically listen to harder rock, I love this album...its got a little bit of everything on here, especially a Southern rock sound that Eric hasn't used before. I feel that this album will jumpstart Eric's career, and as for Eric, he's got big things ahead of him. He's the guy I'll see on TV one day in the future and I can say that we went to school together...

True Talent.

Eric's music is unlike anything heard on the radio or in the media today. His music is sophisticated and depicts an image of modern day blues and rock. Anyone, on any musical level or with any common sense, can, by listening to Eric Steckel, hear the extraordinary talent that he possess and his deep love for music. One word to sum up Eric Steckel and his album "Feels Like Home:" Amazing.
