Album Review

This collection features 15 tracks from Walter Jackson's artistic and commercial peak (1964-1967), including his slew of R&B chart hits, highlights from LPs, and a flop single version of "My Ship Is Comin' In." On occasion, this elaborately produced commercial pop-soul reaches deeply enough into the gloss to rate as a vague precursor to the "quiet storm" music of subsequent decades.

His Ship came in

walter Jackson's songs are a lot like his life , he was stricken with polio and was confined to a wheelchair but his voice was powerful he had his ups and his downs but his music was masterfull what ever he sang whether he covered elton John's sugar bear or did lee Cross he put his spin on it that made him on of the most dynamic but underrated singers of his time five stars from me for the late great Walter jackson.

The Best Of Walter Jackson

I had the good fortune to attend a supper club in 1979 or 1980 and had the chance to listen to Mr. Jackson in person. A truly great talent, sang with so much passion, so much love, so much pain; you could feel him through the lyrics and his wonderful voice. If you love soul music, if you love R&B, buy his music. Set aside some quiet time, sit and listen, you will be amazed. He went to sing for the angels and God much too soon for me, but I can be selfish that way. I miss him!

Speak Her Name

Walter Jackson did'nt get the recogintion he should have recieved for a man with a voice so unforgettable, Songs that will never grow old, I listened to his songs on LPs-33, Casettes, CDs, now my iPod. His songs are forever!!!

Years Active: '60s, '70s

Walter Jackson was '60s Chicago soul at its sweetest and, occasionally, most mainstream. In the mid-'60s, he had a brace of solid R&B hits -- "Suddenly I'm All Alone," "It's an Uphill Climb (To the Bottom)," "Speak Her Name," "Welcome Home," "A Corner in the Sun" -- without ever rising higher than the lower reaches of the Top 100. Recording for the OKeh stable, which was home to the top Chi-Town soul talent, he benefited for a time from the production services of local masters Carl Davis and Curtis...
