Album Review

As they began work on their second album, the Sneaker Pimps released the limited-edition remix album Becoming Remixed. Although it isn't as cohesive as Becoming X, it's a surprisingly successful effort, balancing B-sides and previously released remixes with four previously unreleased cuts. A number of major names — including Armand Van Helden, Roni Size, Perfecto and Eli Janney — have worked on the album; only a few cuts, such as Van Helden's "Spin Spin Sugar — Dark Garage Mix," offer drastic new interpretations of the original versions, but even the slight variations are intriguing and entertaining, making it the rare remix album that's worthwhile for listeners who aren't hardcore fans.

Great album BUT iTunes has the titles all mixed up!!

This is one of THE crucial 90's trip-hop albums, and a real masterpiece. Becoming RemiXed and it's source album Becoming X are both cultural icons and should be in the collection of anyone who lived through that generation.

BUT... iTunes has the track titles all screwed up! And it's been like this for YEARS. I don't know why they haven't fixed it yet; the full album is here, but the tracks indicated do not match the songs on the file. So you need to listen first to make sure you're getting the song you want, then after you download you have to manually rename the title in your library. Its a pain, but I don't think Apple is planning to fix this anytime soon.

Classic mid-90's trip-hop.

They may not have started it but with Becoming X, the Sneaker Pimps broadened the genre of trip-hop. Then sadly they ditched the vocalist Kelli Ali (Dayton) and none of their separate material came close. Becoming X was great for general listening and thrived in the clubs, where DJ's started mixing it right "out of the sleeve" These remixes were even better tailored for gettin' ones groove on, after 2 years of beta testing in clubs around the world.

p.s. all of the tracks on here are mis-titled, so if you are buying this as singles beware.

Please iTunes don't mess up with real titles. Be professional, hire me!!!

Years Active: '90s, '00s

The trip-hop trio Sneaker Pimps formed in 1995 in Reading, England, following the success of Portishead's Dummy and Tricky's Maxinquaye. Borrowing heavily from Portishead and Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps pursued a trancelike but edgy sound, highlighted by Kelli Dayton's soulful vocals. While Dayton was the focal point, guitarist Chris Corner and keyboardist Liam Howe emerged as the band's leaders, writing all of the songs and producing the records. Howe and Corner had been playing in bands since...
