Excellent Rush covers

These covers give Rush the credit they deserve. Taking the music out from behind Geddy Lee and showing us just how amazing Rush really is. Definitely worth taking a listen, Rush fan or just a fan of instrumental music (I didn't hear any lyrics). Hell, I'd bet even a John Tesh fan would enjoy!

Randy Jackson from ZEBRA

People, do you know music or not? This is a Rush Tribute CD - why would Randy Jackson from American Idol be on here? That guy isn't a rocker, he's an R&B dude. And Journey's bassist? What the heck is that about? Journey's bassist? Again Journey - POP Radio Swoon Band. This is a Magna Carta Prog release. Magna Carta only produces Progressive music and their genres. This Randy Jackson is THE RANDY JACKSON - GUITARIST AND VOCALIST EXTRAORDINAIRE from Zebra! Case closed.

Better than you'd think

Okay, so we all know that the "tribute" albums to Rush will continue to flood the retail channel, and most of them will be half-hearted cash grabs. This time, however, they actually got it right. Stu Hamm is fantastic on this record, probably owing more to his well-reputed professionalism than him being specifically jazzed about THIS project in particular. Lakeside Park is well-reimagined, Limelight is just solid throughout, and the "title" track, Subdivisions, is the one track you need to buy even if you don't get the entire album. Different Strings is a nice alternative touch as well. Yeah, it's a cover record by project-jumpers on an off-label. Even so, this one earns four stars on its own merits.
